In a touching show of compassion and commitment to police welfare, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, has presented cheques worth ₦33,816,610.97 to 50 families of officers who died in active service.
The presentation, held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, drew emotional reactions from beneficiaries and officers alike as the symbolic cheques were handed over to the widows and children of the fallen heroes.
The gesture, according to the Command, forms part of the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Scheme, both initiated to support families of officers who lost their lives while serving the nation.
CP Bello Sani, in his remarks, described the event as both solemn and inspiring, noting that while the loss of the officers can never be replaced, the welfare initiative represents a tangible act of remembrance and responsibility.
He lauded the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of police personnel across the country, describing the initiative as a mark of true leadership and compassion.
According to him, IGP Egbetokun’s vision for a humane and motivated police force has begun to yield remarkable results, especially in the areas of morale-boosting incentives, career development, and welfare support for the families of fallen officers.
“His magnanimity has brought immense joy to many families who once felt forgotten,” CP Sani remarked. “May Almighty Allah continue to bless and guide the IGP as he touches lives across the Nigeria Police family.”
The Commissioner further appealed to the beneficiaries to view the financial assistance as a seed of hope, urging them to invest wisely in ventures that would guarantee sustainable livelihoods for their households.
He encouraged them to use the money responsibly, reminding them that the gesture is not just compensation but a foundation upon which to build a stable and secure future for their children.
Reacting on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Sonnen Simeon Mome, expressed deep gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his compassion and generosity towards families who have endured great loss.
He said the funds would go a long way in easing their financial burdens and would be judiciously used to uplift the standard of living of their families, in line with the late officers’ dreams for their loved ones.
“This gesture has restored our hope and faith in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion. “We are truly grateful to the IGP for remembering us and to the Kebbi State Command for the care and coordination.”
The event was witnessed by senior police officers, representatives from the Police Insurance and Welfare Units, and several family members of the deceased officers who offered prayers and words of gratitude.
The Kebbi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its officers, both serving and retired, adding that the sacrifices of fallen officers would never be forgotten under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun.
The ceremony ended on a note of reflection and gratitude, as the hall echoed with prayers for the departed officers and renewed faith in a police system that stands by its own — in service and beyond.
