The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting regulatory agencies in safeguarding public health, following a courtesy visit by the Zonal Director, North West Zone, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mr. Dadi Nantrin Mulla, fsi, at the Command Headquarters, Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.
The meeting, held on Thursday, 6th November 2025, was part of efforts to strengthen existing synergy between law enforcement and public health agencies in the fight against fake, substandard, and unregistered products in Kebbi State.
During the visit, the NAFDAC Zonal Director, Mr. Mulla, expressed his appreciation to the Police Command for its continuous support in ensuring the agency’s operations are carried out effectively within the state.
He described the Police as a vital partner in NAFDAC’s mission to protect the lives of Nigerians through the enforcement of regulatory standards.
Mr. Mulla explained that NAFDAC’s mandate covers the regulation and control of the manufacture, importation, distribution, sale, and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and other regulated products.
He lamented that some violators of these regulations often resort to violence and intimidation against NAFDAC officials during enforcement operations.
He noted that such incidents underscore the urgent need for stronger collaboration with security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure the safety of NAFDAC personnel while carrying out their lawful duties.
According to him, “Our officers are often confronted by resistance from offenders during enforcement.
We therefore rely on the police for operational support, protection, and enforcement strength to ensure that violators are brought to justice.”
Mr. Mulla also emphasized that NAFDAC’s role is not just regulatory but protective — ensuring that only safe and genuine products are available to consumers.
He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to continue combating the circulation of counterfeit and expired products, which pose grave risks to public health.
In his response, CP Bello M. Sani commended the Zonal Director for his dedication to the agency’s mission and for finding time to visit despite his tight official schedule.
He acknowledged the importance of NAFDAC’s work, describing the agency as a frontline defender of public safety and welfare.
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to sustain and deepen the existing cordial working relationship with NAFDAC in Kebbi State.
He pledged to provide continuous operational support to the agency whenever required, especially in high-risk enforcement activities.
CP Sani also assured that the Police Command would not relent in its duty to ensure a safe and conducive atmosphere for NAFDAC staff to operate across the state. “We recognize the critical nature of your work.
Our doors are always open for collaboration to ensure the people of Kebbi State are protected from harmful products,” he said.
The Commissioner further advised that NAFDAC extend its enforcement efforts to manufacturing companies and distributors operating within the state.
He urged them to ensure strict compliance with NAFDAC guidelines and national standards in their production and distribution processes.
CP Sani reiterated that collaboration between the Police and NAFDAC was essential in preventing the proliferation of harmful substances and counterfeit goods that could endanger the lives of unsuspecting consumers.
Earlier, the Kebbi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Alhaji Muyideen F. Suleiman, in his introduction, briefed the visiting Zonal Director on the long-standing partnership between the agency and the State Police Command. He highlighted several successful joint operations that had resulted in the confiscation of fake products and the arrest of offenders.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both agencies expressing optimism about the future of their cooperation in ensuring that Kebbi State remains free of fake, expired, and substandard regulated products.
The courtesy visit, observers say, underscores the growing inter-agency cooperation between law enforcement and regulatory bodies — a relationship that remains vital to the protection of public health, safety, and consumer trust across Nigeria.
