The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Command (Western), CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja psc, mnips, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Controller of Immigration, Lagos Seaport and Marine Command, Comptroller Clementina O. Ogbudu psc, pcc, at the Command Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
The visit was part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and improve joint operations between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime corridor.
During the meeting, CP Agbaminoja emphasized the strategic importance of the Lagos maritime sector to national security and economic activities, stressing that enhanced collaboration is essential for effective port policing.
She noted that seamless coordination with the Immigration Service is critical in areas such as migration management, access control at port facilities, documentation of crew members, and intelligence sharing for early detection of security threats.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the readiness of the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command to work closely with all relevant agencies to reinforce port security, support trade facilitation, and promote efficiency at the nation’s key maritime gateways.
In her response, Comptroller Clementina Ogbudu commended the Ports Authority Police Command for its consistent support and for maintaining orderliness within the port environment.
She maintained that deeper collaboration between both agencies would significantly reduce security breaches, improve border control measures, and enhance the overall safety of port operations.
The Comptroller also highlighted the importance of unified action against transnational crimes, including human smuggling, stowaway cases, trafficking in persons, and other forms of illicit maritime activity.
Both leaders discussed plans for joint patrols, cross-agency training, enhanced intelligence sharing, and other collaborative initiatives aimed at boosting maritime security.
The visit ended with a renewed commitment by both the Police and the Immigration Service to strengthen cooperation and ensure a safer, secure, and business-friendly maritime domain.
