The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 2 in Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Setonji David on Sunday empowered more than 800 constituents with tools and cash grants.
The beneficiaries were empowerment with deep freezers, power generators, sewing machines, vulcanizing machines, hair styling tools, clippers and grinding machines.
Speaking shortly before the empowerment, the lawmaker said this was in fulfillment of his promises made during campaign.
“From the very beginning, I embraces this responsibility with humility, passion and courage because I knew that the legislative function, by its nature, comes with limitations.
“As legislators, our primary duties are summed up into representation, lawmaking and oversight, and we often constrained by the boundaries of these roles
“Yet, I was not determined that such limitations would not hinder my commitment to your welfare because I believed that the welfare of the people must take utmost priority,” he said.
David, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip of the Lagos Assembly, said the initiative was aimed at promoting self-reliance and supporting small businesses in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We have seen the power of empowerment in our own community. When we support small businesses, we create jobs and stimulate local economic growth.
“When we invest in education and vocational training, we equip our youth and women with the skills to build better lives for themselves and their families,” he said.
The lawmaker said over 550 constituent members including artisans, traders, women, youths, and persons with disabilities would go away with the tools while another 250 would receive N50,000 cash grants.
He urged the people of Badagry to come together and create a brighter and more prosperous future for the community.
“Let us continue to work hand in hand to build a Badagry and Olorunda where no child, no woman, and no family is left behind,” he said.
Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Lagos State APC Chairman said they were celebrating the promise made to the constituents through the empowerment programme.
“Today, we stand before you to present the stewardship of your lawmaker to you on behalf of the leadership of the party,” he said.
Ojelabi urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the tools given to them, begging them not to sell them out.

Mr Julius Dosu, another beneficiaries who received vulcanizing machine thanked the lawmaker for providing the tools for them in order to lift them out of poverty.
APC chieftains in Lagos and Badagry, traditional rulers, chiefs and residents of the town graced the programme.
