Mrs Elizabeth Hunpe, the wife of Mr Babatunde Hunpe, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government on Tuesday hosted hosted a colourful event to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.
According to her, this is in line with Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to child protection and empowerment as reflected in the 2025 National Children’s Day theme: “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation”.
Hunpe, highlighted the council’s dedication to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for children, particularly girls.
This year’s global theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” set the tone for the programme, which celebrated the resilience, leadership, and creativity of young girls in shaping their communities.
Hunpe stressed that empowering girls requires more than advocacy, it calls for collective action and sustained commitment.
“Every girl deserves the chance to lead at home, in school, and in society.
Our duty as adults is to guide, support, and believe in their potential,” she said.
Also speaking, the chairman of the council commended the initiative and encouraged the girl child to emulate renowned figures who have excelled in diverse human endeavours.
He urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and determined in their pursuit of greatness.
