The Nigerian Army says its troops operating in different theatres across the country have thwarted several terror attacks, rescued kidnapped victims, and recovered weapons within the last 24 hours.
In a statement released on Saturday, Army authorities confirmed that coordinated operations were carried out in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions, targeting terrorist enclaves and criminal hideouts.
The operations, according to the Army, involved ground troops supported by air and intelligence units, enabling them to respond swiftly to attempted ambushes and abductions.
In Kaduna State, troops reportedly foiled an attempted raid on communities in Giwa Local Government Area, engaging the terrorists in a gun battle that led to the rescue of multiple villagers abducted earlier in the week.
The Army disclosed that during the encounter, several firearms, including AK-47 rifles, were recovered, while ammunition and motorcycles belonging to the terrorists were seized.
Similarly, in Katsina State, troops conducting clearance operations around Jibia forest rescued some kidnap victims after dislodging bandits from their camp. The rescued persons were immediately handed over to local authorities for medical checks and reunification with their families.
In Borno State, troops of Operation Hadin Kai thwarted a planned assault by Boko Haram insurgents along the Maiduguri–Damboa highway. The soldiers ambushed the insurgents, forcing them to flee after sustaining heavy casualties.
Recovered items from the Borno operation included improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammunition, and logistics vehicles intended for use in terror attacks.
Elsewhere in Benue State, troops on patrol intercepted armed herders suspected of planning attacks on rural communities. Weapons and ammunition were recovered, while suspects are currently in custody for further investigation.
The Army added that its quick-response teams were able to neutralize threats in Niger and Zamfara States, where suspected terrorists were dislodged from makeshift camps during midnight operations.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the troops for their bravery and urged them to sustain the momentum in flushing out terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers from their strongholds.
He assured Nigerians that the Army remains committed to ensuring peace and security across the country despite challenges posed by criminal networks.
The rescued victims, numbering in dozens across the different states, expressed gratitude to the troops for saving their lives, describing their ordeal in captivity as harrowing.
Security analysts say the latest string of successes reflects improved coordination between the Army, Air Force, and local vigilante groups who often provide intelligence on the movements of armed groups.
The Nigerian Army has called on citizens to continue sharing credible information with security agencies to aid ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace in all troubled regions of the country.
