The Anambra State Police Command, through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), is set to organize a public awareness walk on 19th December 2025 at 7:00 a.m., starting from Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. The walk aims to discourage cultism and other social vices across the state.
This initiative forms part of the Inspector General of Police’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, security, and moral reorientation, particularly among youths. The campaign seeks to educate the public on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, violent crimes, and other related vices, while encouraging positive behavior and community involvement in crime prevention.
The event is expected to draw participants from security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, Keke and bus unions, students, civil society groups, and other stakeholders, all united in a common resolve to eradicate cult-related activities and criminal tendencies in the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD, emphasized that POCACOV is a non-kinetic, community-driven policing initiative, focusing on engagement, advocacy, and partnership rather than enforcement alone.
“The walk is designed to sensitize the public and encourage a collective effort toward peace and safety. Addressing the root causes of crime requires the active participation of communities,” CP Orutugu said.
The Command reiterated its commitment to working closely with communities to foster sustainable peace, security, and development in Anambra State.
The walk will include educational activities and interactions between law enforcement officers and members of the public to strengthen awareness and build trust between the police and the communities they serve.
POCACOV has highlighted that youth involvement is critical in the campaign, noting that engagement, mentorship, and advocacy are key to deterring participation in cultism and other vices.
Local leaders and organizations are expected to play a prominent role, supporting the initiative through mobilization, speeches, and community engagement during the walk.
Students from schools across Awka and other parts of the state are encouraged to participate actively, reinforcing the message that youth are central to the fight against social vices.
Security agencies will work alongside the police to ensure the safety of participants and smooth coordination of the event.
The POCACOV initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Nigeria Police Force to foster a culture of lawfulness and civic responsibility among citizens.
