The Anambra State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a recent murder case with the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle. The recovery was made on August 14, 2025, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence.
A press released signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the rifle was recovered from an apartment at Umuike Village, Awka.
SP Ikenga said the principal suspect, identified as Nwajagu, fled the scene through the back door upon sighting the police operatives.
The PPRO added that the recovery of the rifle is part of an ongoing investigation into a case of conspiracy, murder, and unlawful possession of firearms as two male victims were gruesomely murdered at Okochi Village, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, and the police have been working tirelessly to apprehend the suspects.
Consequently, the police have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring them to justice as the command assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the suspect is brought to book.
The fabricated AK-47 rifle and one magazine without ammunition have been taken into custody as exhibits. The police are currently analyzing the firearm to determine its origin and any potential links to other crimes.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens and urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation.
