As the year winds down and the Ember Months heighten commercial, social, and travel activities across Anambra State, the Police Command has issued a comprehensive advisory to safeguard residents, visitors, and businesses during the festive season.
In a statement from the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, minps, PhD, the Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
The Ember Months—spanning September through December—are known for increased economic activity and, regrettably, a rise in certain criminal behaviors.
To ensure safety, the Command has intensified visibility policing, expanded highway patrols, activated stop-and-search points, and launched intelligence-led raids on identified hideouts. Joint security deployments now reinforce security in markets, religious centers, public spaces, and major transit hubs.
While assuring the public of the Command’s preparedness, the CP encouraged residents to remain security conscious, avoid unnecessary late-night movements, secure their homes and businesses, and promptly report suspicious activity.
The Command further cautioned motorists against reckless driving, excessive speeding, drunk-driving, and violation of traffic rules. Drivers are advised to service their vehicles, obey traffic officers, and avoid nighttime travel when possible.
With online fraud traditionally rising during the festive period, residents were warned to be mindful of fake investment schemes, fraudulent job offers, identity theft, and related scams.
“Verify before you trust,” the advisory emphasized, noting that security remains a shared responsibility.

Issuing a stern warning to criminals ahead of the festive peak, the Police stressed that no form of criminality will be tolerated.
