The Anambra State Police Command has foiled a fake kidnap attempt and arrested two suspects involved in the incident. The suspects, identified as Chinecherem Okonkwo, 28, and Chinecherem Aronu, 30, were arrested at a lodge in Awka’s UNIZIK Temp Site.

The police arrested the suspects following an intelligence-led operation. The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) received a report about the alleged abduction of Chinecherem Nwaokoye, a student of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), and launched an investigation.

The victim, Chinecherem Nwaokoye, was found alive and in the company of her male accomplice, Chinecherem Aronu, at the lodge. The police investigation revealed that the kidnapping was staged to extort money from the victim’s family.

The suspects had contacted the victim’s family, claiming she had been kidnapped and demanding ransom. However, the police discovered that the kidnapping was a ruse designed to extort money from the family.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Orutugu, has ordered the prosecution of the suspects and expressed concern over the rising moral decay in society. The police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents and pursuing all cases to a conclusive end.
