A renewed sense of vigilance has swept across Anambra State as the Nigeria Police Force steps up preparations ahead of the forthcoming Governorship Election.
In a decisive move to secure the state and guarantee a peaceful electoral process, the Anambra State Police Command has received the Force Headquarters’ Advance Tactical Teams deployed to strengthen security operations across all 21 Local Government Areas.
The arrival of the teams marks a major boost to the state’s security architecture, signaling the determination of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to ensure that law and order prevail before, during, and after the polls.
According to the Force, the deployment aligns with its strategic operational plan, which integrates manpower reinforcement with advanced technological support, including the use of helicopters and drones for real-time aerial surveillance.
At the Command Headquarters in Awka, officers lined up in disciplined formation on Sunday as the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, minps, PhD, formally received the arriving teams amid optimism and renewed commitment to public safety.
Visibly pleased, CP Orutugu lauded the Inspector-General’s proactive leadership and consistent support, describing the deployment as a “timely and strategic intervention” that will further consolidate security gains across the state.
He explained that the aerial surveillance operation will complement land patrols already being executed by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special squads positioned in strategic communities.
With the new technology and personnel, the Command is expected to monitor key areas — including border communities, flashpoints, and difficult terrains — to prevent any form of security breach.
“This synergy between air and land patrols is designed to create a security network that leaves no hiding place for criminal elements,” CP Orutugu said. “Our priority is to protect every resident and ensure a peaceful election.”
The Commissioner emphasized that the Force’s renewed approach focuses on visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response to emerging threats, adding that every officer deployed has been briefed on the need for professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.
He also restated the Command’s willingness to work in close collaboration with sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and community stakeholders to maintain peace and harmony before, during, and after the polls.
Appealing to residents, CP Orutugu urged them to remain calm and supportive of police operations, stressing that security is a shared responsibility. “We count on the people’s cooperation. Stay vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements promptly,” he advised.
He further encouraged citizens to make use of the Command’s emergency contact lines — 07039194332 and 08039334002 — for immediate assistance or to provide actionable intelligence.
Reassuring the public, the Command emphasized that its officers remain firmly committed to ensuring a safe environment where law-abiding citizens can go about their daily activities without fear or intimidation.
