Awka, Nigeria – The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc minps PhD, has commended security stakeholders, community leaders, and residents for their pivotal role in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during the recently concluded Anambra Governorship election.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, CP Orutugu expressed profound gratitude for the cooperation extended to the Police, noting that the calm and orderly conduct of the polls was the result of a collective effort across the State.
He highlighted that the peaceful environment recorded before, during, and after the elections was achieved through the collaboration of sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), traditional rulers, youth groups, and other key stakeholders.
“This partnership has been instrumental in sustaining the message of peace and promoting communal harmony throughout the election period,” CP Orutugu said.
The Commissioner noted that the close coordination with security and community partners greatly enhanced operational effectiveness, allowing the Police Command to implement its election security plan efficiently.
This collaboration, he added, ensured that voters could exercise their franchise freely and without fear, reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process.
CP Orutugu also commended officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command for their professionalism, dedication, and resilience during the election period.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining public order, safeguarding lives, and protecting property across the State.
The Commissioner urged residents to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies in consolidating the gains of peace achieved during the elections.
He also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities that could disrupt public order.
Weeks before the election, CP Orutugu embarked on a statewide security advocacy tour, engaging traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious organizations, and market unions to sensitize communities on peace, voter confidence, and the need for a violence-free election.
The outreach campaign emphasized the role of community partnership in ensuring orderly conduct during the polls and preventing electoral violence.
While acknowledging the success of the elections, the Commissioner cautioned that such compliance must not be taken for granted, urging residents to sustain the same spirit of unity, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He stressed that collective resolve and continued vigilance are essential in rejecting any forces that could divide the people of Anambra State.
