The Anambra State Police Command, on Monday, November 3, 2025, rolled out the red carpet to receive the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, who paid an official visit to the state in connection with the forthcoming governorship election.
The visit coincided with the signing of the Peace Accord among political party flag bearers, a ceremony designed to foster a violence-free and credible election. Representing the IGP were the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, DIG Benjamin Okolo, fdc, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Operations Department, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni.
On arrival at the Command Headquarters, Awka, the IGP’s delegation was warmly received by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, Ph.D. Also present was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13 Ukpo-Dunukofia, AIG Abayomi Oladipo Peter, alongside members of the Command Management Team, senior officers, and ranks who turned out in large numbers to welcome the visiting dignitaries.
In his address, the IGP commended CP Orutugu’s leadership for its proactive security strategies, effective inter-agency collaboration, and continuous engagement with community stakeholders. He urged officers to sustain high standards of professionalism and neutrality as the election approaches.
Egbetokun reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and secure electoral process. He reminded officers that their conduct would play a decisive role in safeguarding the integrity of the polls and the trust of the electorate.
According to him, “Every officer must see themselves as guardians of democracy. Discipline, vigilance, and impartiality are non-negotiable virtues as we approach this critical election.”
One of the highlights of the visit was the decoration ceremony of Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Emmanuel Ogbuanya, who was recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The honor was conferred by DIG Benjamin Okolo, assisted by AIG Abayomi Oladipo Peter.
The IGP described DCP Ogbuanya’s elevation as a testament to dedication, hard work, and professionalism. He encouraged the officer to view the new rank as a call to greater responsibility and continued excellence in service delivery.
In his goodwill message, IGP Egbetokun emphasized that promotions within the Force reflect merit and commitment to the core values of integrity and service to humanity. He charged the newly decorated officer to remain a shining example of the Police Force’s evolving standard of excellence.
Similarly, AIG Abayomi Oladipo Peter and CP Ikioye Orutugu expressed optimism that the IGP’s visit would further boost the morale of officers and men of the Command. They noted that such high-level engagements strengthen the commitment of personnel to effective policing, especially during sensitive national assignments like elections.
DCP Ogbuanya, in his vote of thanks, expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector General for finding him worthy of elevation. He pledged to rededicate himself to the goals and vision of the Nigeria Police Force, assuring the leadership of his continued loyalty and service.
He also extended appreciation to his colleagues and subordinates for their support, promising to uphold teamwork and professionalism in his new capacity.
Present at the event were CP Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police in charge of the Anambra Governorship Election, senior officers from across the state, and other distinguished guests.
The visit concluded on a note of renewed enthusiasm as officers and men of the Command applauded the IGP’s leadership and reaffirmed their readiness to ensure peace and order before, during, and after the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, confirmed that the visit symbolized the Force’s commitment to security excellence and capacity building at all levels.
