The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning against the use of vehicles without registration plates or with covered number plates across the state.
The warning comes as part of intensified security measures ahead of the governorship election scheduled for 8th November 2025.
Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc minps PhD, emphasized that the indiscriminate use of unregistered or concealed vehicles will not be tolerated.
He described the practice as a serious security breach that poses a significant threat to public safety, especially during the sensitive pre-election period.
CP Orutugu noted that criminals often exploit unregistered or covered vehicles to commit crimes and evade law enforcement.
He warned that such vehicles could also be used to disrupt peace and order in the state during the election period.
The Commissioner made it clear that any vehicle found without proper registration or with a covered plate would be impounded immediately.
He added that owners of such vehicles would face prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
To enforce the directive, CP Orutugu ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to intensify patrols across the state.
Stop-and-search operations have also been mandated to ensure full compliance with the new directive.
The Police Command urged residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies in maintaining security and public order.
Members of the public were further advised to promptly report any suspicious movements, persons, or vehicles to the nearest police station.

CP Orutugu assured that these measures are aimed at guaranteeing a credible, safe, and peaceful governorship election in Anambra State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated the warning and called on Ndi Anambra to strictly adhere to all traffic and security regulations during the election period.
