The Anambra State Police Command has begun large-scale deployment of personnel and operational assets ahead of the upcoming bye-election in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga said in a statement from Awka today on behalf of the State Command that move is aimed at securing strategic locations, identified flashpoints, and other sensitive areas before, during, and after the polls.
According to him, the measure is designed to reinforce the existing security structure in the affected areas.
Police say the objective is to ensure a peaceful, hitch-free, and credible electoral process.
The Supervisory Officer in charge of the election, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Godwin Eze, confirmed the readiness of security agencies to maintain law and order.
Eze said residents should expect a visible security presence at polling stations and across the election environment.
He assured Ndi Anambra that the Command is fully prepared to protect lives and property throughout the exercise.
The AIG appealed to the public to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security personnel during the period.
He also encouraged eligible voters to come out and perform their civic duties without fear or intimidation.
The Command stressed its commitment to neutrality and professionalism in handling election security operations.
Officials say all deployed personnel will operate within the law and in accordance with electoral guidelines.
The police further pledged to work closely with other security agencies to ensure effective coordination.
Residents were urged to promptly report any suspicious activity that could threaten public safety.
