The Anambra State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state in response to several panic-generating voice notes and unverified security warnings circulating on social media platforms.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command assured residents that it is closely monitoring the situation and has activated measures to prevent any breach of peace.
The Police described the trending messages as “unstable and unverified,” noting that intelligence analysis carried out so far did not confirm the authenticity of the alarming claims.
Despite this, the Command said it has chosen to respond proactively to forestall potential threats, whether real or fabricated, and to ensure public confidence in ongoing security efforts.
It disclosed that surveillance operations have been stepped up statewide, particularly in locations referenced in the viral voice notes.
The Command also confirmed that visibility policing has been increased, with more operatives deployed to streets, highways, and public spaces both during the day and at night.
According to the statement, routine patrols have been expanded, while targeted security operations are running simultaneously in designated areas.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, directed operatives to remain on heightened alert and sustain close monitoring of movements, activities, and intelligence flows across communities.
He instructed Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, Tactical Units, and Joint Security operatives to maintain momentum and resist complacency in the face of fear-inducing rumours.
The CP further ordered the tightening of intelligence links to ensure rapid interception of threats before they develop into security challenges.
Residents of Anambra, the Police said, are advised to go about their normal activities as adequate security presence has been established to guarantee public safety.
The Command expressed confidence in its operational strategy, stressing that the state remains under firm surveillance and is not under any confirmed threat.
It appealed to the public to avoid sharing unverified voice recordings or messages, warning that such actions could trigger unnecessary panic and may attract legal consequences.
The statement emphasized the need for responsible information sharing, especially at a time where misinformation can escalate tension and disrupt community peace.
