
The Anambra State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against child trafficking, arresting a 63-year-old woman, Ngozi Muotuanya, suspected to be a kingpin of an inter-state child trafficking syndicate.
The suspect, who hails from Awkuzu-Oba, was apprehended on August 11, 2025, by police operatives attached to the Oba Division.
The police operatives acted on credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of the suspect. This decisive action is part of the Command’s efforts to unravel the mysterious disappearance of children in the State, especially in Oba and its environs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly stole a male child, aged about one year, in Minna, Niger State, sometime in 2024. The suspect sold the child to an unsuspecting member of the public in Anambra State, and later resold him to another person.
However, on August 4, 2025, the receiver returned the child to the principal suspect after realizing that he had been stolen.
