As part of ongoing preparations for the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has continued his statewide engagements on election security, patriotism, and community awareness with strategic visits to Ihiala Area Command and Oraifite Division.
The visits form part of the Command’s broader initiative to strengthen collaboration among security stakeholders, foster public confidence, and ensure peaceful participation in the November 8, 2025, governorship poll.
During the interactive sessions, CP Orutugu met with key community leaders, including the President General of Ihiala Community, Commander of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, the Youth Chairman, and a representative of the Local Government Chairman. Officers and men of the Police Command within the respective jurisdictions were also present.
Addressing the stakeholders in Ihiala, the Police Commissioner expressed satisfaction that long-standing security structural gaps had been effectively addressed. He commended the courage and civic responsibility of the people, applauding their cooperation with security agencies in sustaining community peace and resisting criminal infiltration.
CP Orutugu noted that Ihiala and Oraifite communities had displayed remarkable resilience and unity, refusing to allow criminal elements to disrupt social stability or influence political participation.
While in Oraifite Division, he praised the synergy among security agencies operating in the area, emphasizing that sustained collaboration had contributed significantly to maintaining law and order.
He, however, clarified that no local vigilante groups of any kind will be engaged in election security operations, stressing that only trained and accredited personnel from recognized security agencies will participate in election-related assignments.
Reaffirming the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety, CP Orutugu assured that the Anambra Police will ensure that the November 8 Governorship Election is conducted in a peaceful, secure, and credible atmosphere.
He underscored the importance of patriotism during elections, defining it as the courage to reject intimidation, resist fear-driven narratives, and exercise one’s democratic rights freely and responsibly.
In his address to officers and men under the Area Commands, the Commissioner charged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, courtesy, and operational excellence at all times.
He reminded the personnel that modern policing must remain people-centered, intelligence-driven, and rooted in the respect and protection of fundamental human rights.
The Police boss further disclosed that the Joint Security Framework remains fully active and will be strengthened across communities to deter criminal infiltration before, during, and after the election.
He reassured the public that the Command is committed to proactive intelligence gathering and coordinated security responses designed to maintain peace throughout the election period.
The Commissioner also called on Ndi Anambra to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security operations by providing credible information that can aid prompt intervention and prevent threats to peace.
