The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Maritime, AIG Chinedu Oko, on Monday led a team of senior officers on a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola.
The visit took place at the Agency’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
AIG Oko was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Toyin Agbaminoja.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to improve collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and NIMASA in enhancing maritime security.
During the visit, AIG Oko highlighted the importance of a unified security strategy in protecting Nigeria’s coastal and port assets.
He commended NIMASA for its role in maritime safety, regulation and capacity development across the sector.
Oko also praised the Deep Blue Project, noting that its implementation has strengthened maritime law enforcement capabilities.
CP Agbaminoja, in her remarks, reiterated the commitment of the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command to supporting security operations within major port corridors.
She listed Apapa, Tincan Island and Lekki Deep Sea ports among the areas under her Command’s jurisdiction.
Agbaminoja added that the Command’s marine unit patrols up to 12 nautical miles from the ports to deter criminal activities.
She stressed the need for stronger operational coordination with NIMASA to boost trade facilitation and ensure the safety of vessels and cargo.
Responding, NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Mobereola, welcomed the delegation and expressed readiness to deepen institutional cooperation.
He identified intelligence sharing, joint operations and capacity building as areas where the partnership could be strengthened.
Mobereola noted that effective maritime security is crucial to Nigeria’s economic growth and the competitiveness of its ports.
The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to sustain engagements aimed at improving maritime security and service delivery.
