In a glittering ceremony that brought together the nation’s top security minds, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) John Onoja Attah of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) emerged as the NAOSNP Best Tactical Commander of the Year at the 2025 National Security Conference and Awards held in Lagos.
The recognition, conferred by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), celebrated Attah’s uncompromising leadership of the Special Mining Marshals — a specialized tactical force established to protect Nigeria’s mineral assets from the claws of illegal miners and economic saboteurs.
Represented at the event by Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Babatunde Oyamakinde, Attah was hailed for transforming the Mining Marshals into one of the most disciplined, intelligence-driven tactical units in Nigeria’s security architecture.
Since taking command under Operation Hayakin Kogo, ACC Attah has recorded feats that speak volumes: over 600 arrests, 240 prosecutions, 11 convictions, recovery of mineral assets worth millions, and reclamation of 98 illegal mining sites — each operation conducted with surgical precision and zero compromise.
Those who have served under him describe his approach as a blend of discipline and daring. His leadership style, rooted in intelligence and precision, was shaped by years of tactical training at the Defence Intelligence College and the West African Regional Training Centre, where he earned the reputation of a “silent sentinel.”
